The stories read help us to think about things that happen in our daily life. The experiences told are so common that all of us could be the main character of them. Feelings of love, companionship, loyalty and friendship are deeply present in the stories. All of them make us realize that we can have lots of problems and many times we are not able to solve them, such us the ones read in the stories.

In Thucydides for instance, we can appreciate the story of a girl who had mitched off school because of something very simple at the beginning. She hadn’t had time to prepare a piece of homework, she felt guilty and didn’t go to school. Then the protagonist didn’t go to classes the next day because she felt guiltier, not only because she hadn’t done her homework, but also because she hadn’t gone to classes the day before. This situation went on for a long time. And at the end, it helped her to realize the infidelity of her father.

Dingo story makes us realize the love that humans may have for animals. Some people say that animals, especially dogs, are real friends. Humans can betray us whenever they have the opportunity to do it. On the other hand, animals are always loyal. They will never betray us, and they don’t care if we have money or not, if we have something to offer them or not. On the contrary, some unreal friends like humans are with us because of convenience and the benefits they can get from us. That is why we must be very careful when choosing friends. Sometimes it is better to have few friends if they are real ones than to have a lot superficial ones. The protagonist for instance, didn’t care what breed the bitch was or where it came from. He loved and accepted it just the way it was.

Something relevant that I would like to mention about Dingo story is that the protagonist acted in a way more loyal than his bitch did. He didn’t care that it was a wild dog, and therefore dangerous for the job he had. On the contrary, I think Dingo did not appreciate that love because it ran away with a pack. At the beginning, I thought it was because the bitch was afraid of being drowned, but it should trust its owner and know that nothing bad was going to happen.

The last story, The German boy, shows us feelings like friendship and cowardice. For example, cowardice is present when it says that the protagonist of the story didn’t have the guts to tell his family that the company where he worked was bankrupt. Friendship is found when the main character mentioned his friend, a German boy, to whom he met when he was in the school. They became real friends and supported each other in sad or unhappy situations. The protagonist of the story became the only friend of the German boy, cheering him up whenever he was sad.

If we think of the similarities of the stories, we can realize that there are some feelings that are present in all three stories. Loyalty for instance is present in all of them. The protagonist of Dingo was incredibly loyal with his bitch. Loyalty is also present in The German boy who was really loyal with his country when he decided to continue speaking in his native language without caring what his classmates said. Loyalty is something that the protagonist’s father of Thucydides did not have with his family, especially with his wife because it is said that he was in the garage with another woman.

Another thing that the stories presented is that all of them had an abrupt ending. As we saw in Dingo story, it was too unexpected when it said that the bitch ran way with a pack. I was expecting it to come back with its owner, but unfortunately it didn’t happen. In Thucydides we were surprised when reading that the protagonist’s father had a relationship with another woman. It happened an unexpected day, when the protagonist had not gone to the usual place she used to go after mitching school, the Pagoda. She was in the garage when she saw her father talking in a suspicious way with a woman who was not her mother. While I was reading I never thought that the story would finish in that way.

In addition, all the stories had a sad sense. I could feel a lot of sadness when reading them. It made me very blue when I read that Dingo had decided to go away with the other dogs, leaving its owner alone. Or when it was told that the company of the protagonist in the German Boy was bankrupt and dared not tell his family about the problem that was affecting his company. Moreover, nobody can say that it was not sad to read that the father of the girl in Thucydides had been unfaithful to his wife.

Courage is also present in the stories, but this is something that was present in some of them, and should have been in others. For example, The German boy had a lot of courage when he decided to continue using his mother tongue in a country where almost nobody knew German or when it is said that the main character of this story was not able to tell his family what was going on in his job. Courage is something that the owner of Dingo should have had, nevertheless he dared not contradict the decision of his boss which was to drown Dingo. As a result, it caused the flight of the bitch. In Thucydides the girl didn’t have much courage to tell her father that she knew about his infidelity.

All these are very simple stories, anyway they are so useful for readers. They make us think about daily life problems that can happen to anybody. Perhaps, they help us in order not to make mistakes when solving hitches like the ones we have read. After reading, I remember my teacher from high school who used to say: “short stories about simple things can be the most useful tool for readers”.

Mr. Boggis was walking forward Rummins’ house vey happy. He was happier than any day. He couldn’t believe that he was going to be the owner of that beautiful old piece of furniture. “I’m going to be famous, I’m not going to be poor anymore”, he said smiling. He was even, making his new future plans.

When he was approaching to the house, he saw the men’s faces very tired, but didn’t suspect what had just happened. He couldn’t think of anything else, but his future life. Once he arrived in his car, he asked them why they looked so tired. It was a complete surprise and deception when he heard what they said. “We have cut the legs off in order to make it easier to put them on your car, you don’t have to thank for that, you have been very polite with us, that’s why we wanted to make this little gift for you”.

As mister Boggis heard that, his face turned into red, he could not even breathe. He thought the world was over, his life was over. It was the best opportunity he had never had and now it was over. “What kind of stupid are you? Why did you do it? Did I ask you to it?” The three men could no understand what was happening. He had been so kind, and now he was acting like a crazy. “Why are you so angry?” Rummis asked him, “You said you just wanted the legs of the table. Also, you said it was fake, it can be occupied like firewood”.

Mr. Boggis was silent. He couldn’t pronounce any word. Suddenly, he kicked Rummis. He wanted to kill the three men. They had broken his dream, his only opportunity to be famous. While he was fighting, Bert and Claud tried to stop the fight by hitting him. They did not want to do it, but Mr. Boggis was acting like a monster. They had never seen somebody so angry like him.

Claud and Bert were doing their best in order to stop the fight and not to hurt Mr. Boggis, who never stopped shouting and kicking everybody in there. Some minutes later, Mr. Boggis fainted and fell to the ground like a dead.

While Mr. Boggis was on the ground, the three men asked themselves what had happened, but they found no answer. So Rummis decided to look for some clue in M. Boggis’ car, which they thought was a very expensive one for a clergyman.

Rummins started looking at the back seats, then at the front seats, but couldn’t find anything. Then, he looked at the glove compartment and saw a document, which indicated Mr. Boggis’ real work.

“He is not a clergyman. This man is a dealer in antique furniture, and has got his own showroom. Of course, he wanted to buy our table cheaper than the real price. Perhaps, it is much more expensive than the amount of money he was going to pay for. This wretched thought we were stupid ” Rummis said.

“And surely, it was not a fake piece of furniture, perhaps it was a really famous one, that is why he became so angry when he saw the table destroyed” Bert added.There was a silence. Nobody was talking. All of them were thinking about the sham. They were all so disappointed with themselves.

“What are we going to do with the man?” Claud asked, but nobody answer. Then, Rummis said, “we were very kind with this man, he made us think he was a kind clergyman looking for old furniture, but it was all a complete lie, and he will be well in some minutes and will go out. But, we cannot allow it. He tried to lie us, he made us to cut our old table, which by the way, was not fake”.

What will we do so? Bert asked. They were looking for a solution when Claud said “we cut the table because we thought it was fake and served for nothing. Now think, this man is a fake as well, and doesn’t serve for anything, so what we have to do now, it is to kill him”.

“Well said, there are some legs to cut” said Rummis, who went to bring the saw. In some minutes, they had cut Mr. Boggis legs off, as well as they did with the table, and then, they dug a deep hole and put Mr. Boggis’ body in there. Bert hid the car, and after finishing “the work”, all of them went into the house, like if nothing had happened.

Some days later, the police was looking for Mr. Boggis, who had disappeared mysteriously. They suspected he was dead. One day, a policeman went to Rummis’ house and asked “have you seen him before. Probably he is dead, and now, we are looking for the killers”. “Oh! My dear sir, I’m afraid I can’t help you, I’m not a killer, the only thing i have made disappear, was a fake “piece of furniture” ”.

Work and family: if we think about the relation between these two words, we can realize that they are completely related. Work and family are part of our whole life. That is why, it is very important to understand the roll that both play in our life, and how important are for us.

Actually, both (work and family) make us happy and fulfilled. The first one, family, makes us feel lots of emotions. Members of our family are with us in good and bad moments, they support our opinions and decisions, want the best for us, and they also give us lots of pieces of advice to do right things. The second one, work, is a very important thing in people´s life, because it lets us grow professionally and make money, which is also important.

We cannot neither dedicate more time to one of them, nor mix them. So, when we are working, we should not be thinking about our family. For example, if we have a problem with any family member we cannot solve it at work, it is not correct. On the other hand, we cannot be worried about work when we are with our family. We must dedicate the correct time to each of them.

Sometimes, it is very difficult not to mix them, but we have to know that we can have a lot of problems if we do it. It is exactly what happened in the story “Jack Randa Hotel”. We can realize that they, Gail and Will, did not give the real importance to these two things. Gail, for example, had not appreciated how valuable her family was. She had left home when she was just eighteen years old to discover the world and start working, and she had no more contact with them. It is true that we can do many things when we are young, but we cannot be dedicated to just one thing. It is more valuable when we are able to live giving the correct importance to everything. Gail also gave more importance to her husband, Will, and did not seem to care about her work, because she sold her shop and went in search of Will. So, we can see that she didn’t know to make a balance.

When we are not able to live in harmony with both, we can have many other problems, not just stop talking to our family. For example, some people can get divorce. Something similar occurred with Gail and Will, who stopped living together because he had fallen in love with a younger woman. Here is another relevant thing to say: communication is very important. That is, if we have any kind of problem, we must talk with people who are related in order to get a solution. It is a very bad idea to say nothing we do not agree whit somebody, or when we do not feel comfortable with something.

I have not heard somebody saying that he or she has never had a problem at work or with their family. It is something very common. Everybody has problems but not everybody can and want to get a solution. Some people say that it is very difficult to find solution for some problems, but I would say that sometimes we are who do not want to find it. Finally, I could say that the key to our success is to find a balance between work and family. if we are able to do it, we will feel fulfilled.

If I were

If I were…I have said this phrase many times!! I have wanted to be a lot unimaginable things. For example, once I was watching a TV program about the space, in which there were a lot of astronauts who were talking about their profession. I could see when they were travelling to the space. It was really amazing, so I said to myself: “If I were an astronaut, I could go to the space and be very near the stars!!” .When people asked me what I wanted to be in the future I used to answer “I want to be an astronaut”, but then I decided not to be astronaut because height made me dizzy.
Some days ago, I was watching TV and I heard that the coach of our national football team was going to give up because Harold Maine Nicholls had not been re-elected. Of course, I felt terrible because he is one of the best coaches in the WORLD!! And I said “if I were Marcelo Bielsa, I would continue working in Chile”. It is pity for the ones who love football, like me. On the other hand, if I were Mister Segovia, who is the new president of The National Association of Professional Football (ANFP), I wouldn’t accept to take the job because of the hate of the fans.
As I said, I would like to be many things, so I am going to tell you some of them:
I like singing but unfortunately I sing terrible. I think I am the worst singer in the world. One of my favorite singers is Beyonce because she not only sings excellent but also is a very good person, so if I were Beyonce, I would be really happy because I could travel around the world singing in so many concerts as I have dreamt. I could share and know others singers and be in any country I would want.
If I had enough money, I would travel to many interesting places from Chile like Easter Island, Chiloe, The Atacama desert, etc. I think there are a lot amazing places to visit in Chile. And If I were millionaire, I would travel around the world. I would go to Spain, France, Argentina, and English spoken countries in order to improve my skills.
If I were Leonardo Farkas, I would give my money to poor people in order to stop the poverty and I wouldn’t be so selfish, so I would try to be humbler!!
If I were a famous person, I would continue living like now, I would not change my way to act; I just would have more comforts.
If I were politician, I would work, because they do not usually work, or being honest they do NOT work, so I would be making a change in our country.
If I were a good sportswoman, I would open a gym and would help overweight people in order to make a country with healthy people.
If I were Education minister, I would work harder to improve the education in our country, I would emphasize the initial formation if future teachers.
I could continue writing what I would do if I were different people but I sincerely prefer to live my reality…!!

My Monster House

When I was child I used to play with three Friends and my elder sister; they were Catalina Javiera Evelyn and Antonio. We were used to playing in my house where there was an old house in which my grandparents lived.
The house was empty because my grandparents who lived in there were died. So it was the best place to play because we could be alone. We thought that was our house and we were a family. Javiera was the mother, Antonio was the father and Evelyn Catalina and I were the daughters.
The house was not so comfortable because, as I said, it was very old and untidy. It was built with clay brick. That material made the house chilly most of the time. One day we were having dinner with some meals made with mud and some flowers and suddenly we heard a strange sound. It was like somebody with little feet who was walking. It was really terrible, so we ran way!!
We met the next day and talked about the strange events happened. We thought the house was haunted because of the sounds. So we decided to investigate what happened in there. We told some friends the situation and they decided to help us in the investigation.
We met every day and did different thing in order to discover if the house was haunted or somebody was doing the sounds to make us scared. We were around the house every days but nobody was in there, so thought that there were ghosts in the house. The investigation became interesting for me because I thought I was a spy, but at the same time it made me afraid.
One day we decided to come in the house in order to discover if there was something. We looked each room but did not see anything so we kept in there for a moment. Suddenly we heard that something fell down in the kitchen, we went to see and there was a cup on the floor. Nobody had made it because we were all in the dinner room when it happened, so we ran away again…
I told my mother and she said”Don’t worry…Perhaps it is just your imagination”. I was really angry with her and with every adult because they never believe children!
We decided to go in the house again because we could not continue with that mystery.
So we went there and were some hours, but nothing happened. We returned the house the next day but nothing happened again. We thought that ghost had gone and we continued playing in the house normally. But one day we heard something in the ceiling… in less that one second we were outside the house. My mother saw us crying and very scared and went to see what happened. I told her the situation again and she finally believed me. So she decided to go in the house to see if there was something. We were waiting outside. I was really afraid of the ghosts, I thought they could hurt my mother but I did not dare to come in!! We were waiting for her. She finally went out. She was laughing, we asked her what happened and she told us that the sounds were not because of the ghost…but the mice!!!
Now, my friends remind that story and think it is funny, I think that as well, but I will never forget my monster house…

First of all we must know that we are all able to do our homework by ourselves because we are intelligent people.

When we are cheating we lie to our classmates, our teachers, parents and even ourselves.

Our teachers do not deserve to be deceived; they believe in the students, in their abilities or capacities, so we have to prove them that we can do any homework they want.

Parents of people who cheat are very proud of their children, but they don’t really know what their children are doing. We have to be grateful with our parents. Most of the times, they have made a big effort to get us to be in the best schools or universities. They have educated us in order to be good students, professionals, or more important, good people.

When somebody cheats, he or she is not respecting the classmates, who have made a big effort to do their homework.

When we cheat or copy other woks we also lie to people who have made that work previously. Their works deserve to be read but not cheated. I am sure they have made a big effort and worked very hard. And it is not fair that other people copy their ideas or thoughts. We all can think, so we can do any homework by ourselves. For that reason it is so important to know that it is not fair to imitate ideas of someone else and we must respect them.

When we have to do a homework we should read many books or to look for the best information. It takes a lot time and is not a very entertaining thing to do for people who do not like reading or studying.

We know that there are some people who learn faster or slower than others, so if we learn slower we should try more than those people who learn faster, but it does not mean that we have to cheat, on the contrary, we should work harder.

There are a lot of resources or means to do our homework. When can surf the internet, which is one of the most powerful weapons to study or to work. But students just copy and paste the information requested.

When can also read books or magazines and then select the best information. To read is helpful for us because we can think and process the information read. On the other hand, people who just copy and paste won’t have that ability.

There is a form to quote something which is interesting for us. We must write the idea in inverted commas or quotation marks, and then we must write the name of the book selected and the name of the person who has written the idea. This is a very good and legal way to include interesting ideas.


Many people can tell us about cheating. They can talk all the time about that in order to convince us not to do it. But the only person who can convince us really is ourselves.

Our daily life is very stressful; we are worried about many things. And most of the time we do not get worry about our health.
Healthy habits mean more than one thing. For example, they consist in sleeping well, to eat
Healthy food, practicing some sports, etc.
People who want to have a healthy life should live on healthy food; all their meals must be healthy, for example, low-fat food. They should eat a lot of fruits like apples, oranges, strawberries, melons, pears, etc. We have to eat at least five portions a day. Vegetables like lettuces, potatoes, tomatoes, avocados, celeries, onions, carrots are also healthy for us. Fish is also helpful for our health, we have to eat it twice o three times a week. To drink water is very useful for us; we should drink two or three litres a day. Juices or drinks are not good for our health because they have a lot of calories and artificial colorings.
If we want to have healthy habits we should not eat between meals and we have to avoid some foods like candies, high in fat food, cakes, chocolates, biscuits, fried food and we should eat red meat once a week because this kind of food is high in fat, so we could have heart attacks.
Stop smoking is other thing that we can do; cigarettes are bad for our heart and they also give us cancer; it is a bad habit which we must avoid. We can live without smoking, so it is a decision which people who smoke have to make.
Another important thing that we can do is no drinking a lot of alcohol, but a glass of red wine can be good for our heart. Wine is not a problem for our health, but it becomes a problem when we drink a lot of it and everyday.
People who are overweight should lose some weight because they could have heart attacks.
It is also important for us to sleep well, we can do it, using loose clothes, no eating a lot of food before sleeping, or we can also drink a cup of hot milk, no drinking coffee o coke before going o bed, no watching television too late, to turn lights off or no listening music at night.
Another thing that we should do is to do exercise, we can go to the gym or if we prefer, we can do some outdoor sports like hiking, running, and swimming. It is useful for losing weight, and we can also become relax, because we have to do a lot things during the day like going to school, to work, etc., so these things make us really stressed.
If health is really important for us we must start doing some of these things!!
